Happy Birthday to Me! (and Phil)

By | May 26, 2011

Hi

Happy Birthday to Me & Phil!

Well by the time you read this we will be in New Plymouth having a birthday holiday.  As we share the same day – how cool is that! – every second year we go away for a short break to celebrate OUR birthday.  I haven’t been to New Plymouth since 1975 so thought it was about time I went back.  I’ll try and take some photos while we are away and post them next week.

I had to be sneaky in getting Phil’s card made without him seeing it.  As we share the same hobbies room I had to wait until he went out to do some photography so I could have the room to myself!

I always struggle making masculine cards so here is what I made for him.  I’m quite pleased with how it turned out.

I cut the large star out of Daffodil Delight and then added Crystal Effects to give it a nice glossy finish.  I had tried to photograph the inside of the card but it wouldn’t stand up so I gave up!  I had stamped the ‘stars’ for the set in Tangerine Tango.
Supplies:
Stamps – Starring You
Cardstock – Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Whisper White
DSP – Haiku (retired)
Ink – Tangerine Tango
Other – Daffodil Delight Ribbon, Small Star Punch, Large Star Punch, 1/2″ Circle Punch, 1 1/2″ Circle Punch, 1 3/4″ Circle Punch, Crystal Effects, Dimensionals
Well this will be me until we get home on Sunday.  Hope you have a great weekend.

Try Stampin on Tuesday #16

By | May 25, 2011

Hi there

It feels like only yesterday that I was posting last weeks challenge but as we go on holiday this afternoon I wanted to get this weeks one up before we head away.

I had two attempts at this layout and have gone with my second option as it is brighter.  Here is the sketch:

and here is my take:

I haven’t done any stampng on this card – just used colour, punches & embellishments.  The owl is made out of DSP and I’ve run the leaf through the Square Lattice Embossing folder for some texture.  The background cardstock is actually Pacific Point but it looks brighter in the photo.

Supplies:
Cardstock – Pumpkin Pie, Pacific Point
DSP – Windsor Knot, East Coast Prep
Other – Two Step Owl Punch, Two Step Bird Punch, Brads, Square Lattice Embossing Folder

Have a great rest of the week – I will be.

Try Stampin On Tuesday #15

By | May 23, 2011

Hi there

I have finally got round to completing and photgraphing this weeks challenge – a bit later than usual.

It took me a bit of time to work out what to do with this sketch:

I finally decided on my combination Sunday afternoon!  This week I have used the colours from JAI – Pear Pizzazz, Baja Breeze, Perfect Plum and Whisper White.

Instead of having two squares on the top I have gone of one strip but two different embellishments to represent the two squares.  I really like this layout (now that it’s completed!) and I think I may recreate it in some other colour combinations.  I’m not sure if you can see but I’ve added some glitter to the motif on the rollered strip for some sparkle.
So here it is:

Supplies:
Cardstock – Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White, Textured Baja Breeze, Perfect Plum
Stamps – Friendly Words Roller, Perfect Punches
Ink – Perfect Plum
Other – Pear Pizzazz 1/2″ Ribbon, Beautiful Wings Embosslit Die, Oval Punch, White Embossing Powder, Dazzling Diamonds, Dimensionals

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Happy Birthday Cheryl

Hi

Well I hope you have had a great weekend.  Mine hasn’t been that hot – I’ve had my first head cold.  It’s not that easy crafting trying to keep your head up all the time!  Never mind I am starting to feel better – just in time to go back to work.

Here is a card I made last week for another colleague who has a birthday this week.  I was wanting to use up some of my scraps of DSP so I checked back to the Autumn-Winter mini from last year when the paper was released for some ideas.  It was great – there was an example that used four different papers.  So if you still have your last years mini check out page 30.  Here is how mine turned out.  I was really pleased with this and I’m sure I’ll use this layout again.

Supplies:
Cardstock – Orchid Opulence, Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White
Stamp – Spotlight on Christmas, On Your Birthday
Markers – Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive
DSP – Cottage Wall
Other – Old Olive 1/4″ ribbon, Modern Label Punch, Scallop Border Punch, Two Step Bird Punch
Hope you have a great week.

Happy Birthday Paula

By | May 20, 2011

Hi

Another Paula had her birthday yesterday – hope you had a great day.  I have never met Paula but she has left some wonderful comments on my blog since I started blogging earlier this year.  Thank you for your words of encouragement they mean a lot to me :).

How do you create a card for somebody that makes such wonderful cards herself?  Well I love this stamp set and as we have crafting in common I thought this was a great one to use.

Sorry I don’t have a photo of the inside – I wrote on it then realised I hadn’t taken a photo!  I had stamped the bag in the bottom lefthand corner (with Í love stamps’ on the bag) then stamped the roller, marker, scissors & the stamp along the bottom.  I ended up using 10 of the 11 stamps in the set.  The good old Colour Chart gave me the colour combination.

Supplies:
Stamps – Totally Tess
Cardstock – Sahara Sand, Perfect Plum, Blushing Bride, Whisper White
Markers – Regal Rose, Early Espresso, Sahara Sand
Other – Scallop Trim Corner & Border Punch, Modern Label Punch & Die, Big Shot

Happy Birthday Pat

Hi there

Don’t forget to leave a comment so that you can be in the draw to win a free pass to join Stampin Fun and Friends – see my earlier post.

This birthday card is for one of the ladies at work whose birthday is on Saturday.  I altered my original design a bit once I started creating – the original colours I’d chosen just weren’t working for me.  It’s called a ‘Joy Fold’ card and has lots of options for design.  The front piece of cardstock opens out and gives room for more stamping or colour.

For the background I’ve used the Very Vintage roller.  When I first bought my roller I was really disappointed with the results but now that I have the ruler I love using it.  I also found out it is better to use the roller standing up than trying to do it sitting down.

For my envelope I’ve used two different pieces of double sided paper to get the colour combination I wanted.  It’s a great way of using up the small offcuts.

Supplies:
Stamps – Very Vintage Roller, So Happy For You
Cardstock – Certainly Celery, Orchid Opulence, Whisper White, Rich Razzleberry
Ink – Certainly Celery, Rich Razzleberry
DSP – Cottage Wall
Other – Big Shot, Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die, Scallop Envelope Die, Scallop Trim Corner Punch
Enjoy the rest of your day.

Try Stampin On Tuesday #14

By | May 14, 2011

Hi there

Well this weeks sketch had me stumped for a bit.  So last night I had a look through my ‘techniques’ folder to see if I could get some inspiration – it worked.  I found a techique called Emerging Colour that I’d got from Paula Dobson a while ago but hadn’t had time to trial it.  I will definitely be trying this one out again with other stamp sets.  For my colour combination – the trusty Colour Coach!  Here is this weeks sketch:

and here’s my take on it

Supplies:
Stamp – Vintage Vogue, Simply Said, On Your Birthday
Cardstock – Sahara Sand, Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze, Early Espresso, Whisper White
Ink – Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze, Early Espresso
Other – Versamakr, Clear Embossing Powder, Brayer, Scallop Trim Border Punch, Scallop Oval & Large Oval Punch, Early Espresso Satin Ribbon
Have a great weekend.

Happy Mothers Day Mum

By | May 8, 2011

Hi

Happy Mothers Day Mum – you are a wonderful Mum & friend!  To all the crafting Mum’s – I hope you have a happy day.

I can finally show you the card I made for Mum.  This was the first Twisted Easel card that I made but can only post it now (in case Mum spotted it before the day!).  I have stamped the flower & greenery with embossing powder and then filled in the flower with a blender pen & ink pads.  I had fun putting the ‘paper lace’ down on top of the sticky tape – I had to keep pulling my hand off the tape!  I really love this style of card – it is easy to make and very effective.

Supplies:
Stamps – Fifth Avenue Floral, Vintage Vogue
Cardstock – Pale Plum, Rich Razzleberry, Very Vanilla
DSP – Cottage Wall
Other – Decorative Punch, Eyelet Border Punch, Old Olive Ribbon

Mothers Day Card for MIL

By | May 7, 2011

Hi

Here is the card that I have made for my MIL.  Happy Mothers Day Jean.

I saw the card design on Dawn Olchefske‘s blog and just had to have a go at recreating it.  Her video turorial is great.  The stamp I’ve used is one I got while on holiday in Christchurch recently.  I really enjoy colouring in & this one lends to heaps of colour options.

I’ve also managed to mat the sentiment using the new Decoartive Punch.
Supplies:
Cardstock – Perfect Plum, Pale Plum, Watercolour Paper
Markers – various
Other – Ribbon, Decorative Punch

Try Stampin on Tuesday #13

By | May 5, 2011

Hi

Well May is certainly the month for birthdays at my work – there are 13 of us with birthdays in May out of a staff of 79.  My husband (Phil) and I share the same day – 26th May – which is great as he can never forget my birthday!  This year we are celebrating our birthday with an extended weekend and are heading down to New Plymouth.  I haven’t been there since 1975 and can’t wait to explore Taranaki.

I’ve made this weeks challenge for one of the guys at work.

This is one of my favourite stamp sets and even though it’s retired I still enjoy using it.  Originally I was only going to roller the bottom but when I showed it to Phil he suggested I also do the top and as I am an obedient wife (yeah right!) well I think this time he may be right!  I am really pleased with how this turned out.
Here is the sketch we were given:

Supplies:

Stamps – Crab & Co, Sandy Shells
Cardstock – Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze, Not Quite Navy, Watercolour Paper
Ink/Markers – Basic Grey, Early Esspresso, Baja Breze, Marina Mist, Not Quite Navy, Cajun Craze, Daffodil Delight, Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Yoyo Yellow
Other – Dimesionals, Crystal Effects
