Pine Boughs and Ornaments

By | October 18, 2016

Hi there

I had the pieces of this card sitting on my desk for ages waiting for the finishing touch.  It just wasn’t quite coming together for me.  And then I decided to ‘hang’ my ornament on one of the branches and it came together.

I applied ink with a dauber to the inside of the embossing folder then placed the card stock in the folder and ran it through the Big Shot.

I had the ornament already cut out (it was actually left over from last Christmas!) but wasn’t 100% sure how to attach it.  It didn’t look right just sitting there so I carefully made a hole above the branch and threaded some Gold Metallic Thread through the top of the ornament and through the hole and secured it on the back of the card stock.

It’s always hard to get a good photo when foil is involved – you didn’t really need to see my reflection in the foil!

Showcasing Designer Series Paper (DSP) – October Card Class

By | October 13, 2016

Hi there

I can now share with you the cards I taught for this months card classes 🙂

I decided these cards needed to use DSP as we have the ‘buy three get one FREE’ special this month and it would give the ladies some ideas for using DSP.  I don’t know about you but I often end up buying the lovely paper we sell and then not wanting to cut into it because it’s so nice!  Well that is changing.

First up we have a card I taught years ago.  I CASED it from Dawn Olchefske and made some changes to fit our metric measurements.  This time I added a ‘belly band’ to keep the card closed.  I made two samples so they could see it in two different paper designs.  I’ve used the beautiful Floral Boutique DSP and co-ordinating stamp set Floral Phrases.

The second card we made uses paper from the Holiday Catalogue – Candy Cane Lane.  Again I created two samples using different paper from the pack and swapping the coloured card stock around.  For this card you do need to have your scissors handy as you have to manually (I know – shock horror) cut the stamped images out.

There’s been some discussions on some of the craft groups I belong to as to which way the ‘cable’ of the new Cable Knit Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder should go.  If I was creating a ‘Cable Knit’ jumper I would probably do it vertically but I wasn’t wanting this to be a ‘jumper’ but an accent so went with it horizontally – so you can use it whatever way suits your project :).

My ladies had fun creating both cards.  So if you like these cards and need some DSP October is the month to purchase your paper.  Check out my post here for more details or give me a call.

Inlaid Detailed Floral Thinlits Cards

By | October 11, 2016

Hi there

Wasn’t it great to see the sun and feel the warmth today 🙂  I am so over all the rain we’ve been having.

Over the weekend I made a few cards with the Detailed Floral Thinlits.  These cards weren’t quick to make and were more like doing a jigsaw puzzle than making a card!

floral-phrases-card-anita     floral-phrases-card-front-kristine-60th

To create the card I used the Detailed Floral Thinlits die on Whisper White and ‘pushed’ all the pieces out (which you discard) just leaving the frame behind.  I then cut the two dies again from  Pool Party and Island Indigo.  This time you want to keep the ‘pushed’ out pieces and discard the frame.  Now the fun begins – sticking the pieces back into the Whisper White frame 🙂  This is what takes the time – matching up the shape with the cut out space.  Even though it takes some time to complete I’m really happy with the finished effect.  I have some other colour combinations to share soon.

This first card is for our neighbour whose birthday was yesterday and the second card is for a friend whose birthday is today – and hers was a ‘special’ birthday.  Here’s the inside of her card.

I also used the die to create a small holder for some chocolates 🙂

Sweet Cupcakes Trio – Happy Birthday

By | October 7, 2016

Hi there

I’ve been having some fun with the Sweet Cupcakes stamp set this past week 🙂  It had been sitting on my shelf uninked and feeling lonely so I thought I’d let it see some light – do you have stamp sets like that?

I must admit I do like the ‘triple’ step stamps we have available in the current Annual Catalogue.  They really help give dimension to your stamped images.  I’ve found if I start with the lightest colour and stamp number 3 and work backwards it’s easier to line the images up and you still get the good colour definition.

Supplies:  Stamp – Sweet Cupcake; Card Stock – Flirty Flamingo, Whisper White; Ink – Pink Pirouette, Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo, Tip Top Taupe, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand; Other – Cupcake Cutouts Framelits, Banner Triple Punch, Calypso Coral Thick Bakers Twine, Sprinkles Punch, Flirty Flamingo Enamel Shapes, Dimensionals

Don’t forget we have a great DSP special this month – buy Three packs of selected Designer Series Paper and get One FREE.

sharable1_b3g1dsp_naspuk

Do you find you buy DSP and then don’t know what to create with it?  Well later this month – Saturday 29 October – I’m holding a special class where I will teach you how to make 20 notecards using one sheet of DSP.  You will have four different designs and make 10 Christmas cards and 10 Birthday cards using a technique called One Sheet Wonder.  I will give you four templates which you can use again and again.  If you are interested in attending this class please email me on paula@yellowbearstamping.com to book your seat.  Numbers are limited so be in quick to secure your seat.

Another event that is coming up on Saturday 12 November is our Christmas Creative Inkers Extravaganza Event. Email me if you are interested in coming to this event – again seats are limited so be in quick as this event fills up quickly.

Time – 12:30 – 5:15pm (doors open at 12:00pm so come early and check out the display boards)
Cost – $45.00 which includes a $10 voucher (voucher can be redeemed with a $50.00 order)
Venue – Auckland Bridge Club, 273 Remuera Road (Cnr Remuera and Armadale Roads)
What is an Extravaganza?  An Extravaganza event is where you come along for a fun afternoon and create five different projects.  All supplies are provided – all you need to bring are scissors and some adhesive.  We have door prizes and afternoon tea is provided.

Have a great weekend.

Happy 21st – Again :)

By | October 4, 2016

Hi there

Last month a friend of mine had a big ‘0’ birthday.  I decided to have fun and used the Number of Years stamp set.

number-of-years-40-front

Have you seen the new Seasonal Masks in the Holiday catalogue?  I used them here on my Merry Mice Notecards.  They’re a great way to create a background when you don’t want it to be the main focal point.  For this one I used a sponge to apply the colour to the card stock.

And inside – well he couldn’t get away from the fact he is no longer 21!

Supplies:  Stamp – Number of Years; Card Stock – Early Espresso, Tangerine Tango, Island Indigo, Whisper White; Ink – Crumb Cake, Tangerine Tango, Island Indigo; Other – Large Numbers Framelits, Seasonal Masks, Sponge, Early Espresso Bakers Twine, Balloon Punch (retired)

Sweet Cupcake – Belated and ‘on time’

By | October 3, 2016

Hi there

Last month my friend had a birthday – expect I forgot it!  I had it for the following week so needed to create a ‘belated’ birthday card.  Good thing we have a stamp set for such an occasion.  Everyone loves a cupcake and with this set you can create so many different ‘toppings’ to suit.  The top and casing images are both three step stamps

Supplies:  Stamp Set – Sweet Cupcake; Card Stock – Smoky Slate, Whisper White; Ink – Pink Pirouette, Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo, Tip Top Taupe, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand; Other – Cupcake Cutouts Framelits, Banner Triple Punch, Calypso Coral Thick Bakers Twine

While I had this set out I decided to create an ‘on time’ card for another friend – I did get this date right :).  For the background I used the cut outs from the Sprinkles Punch in the coordinating card stock – a bit of fun.

Shaving Foam Technique – September card class

By | September 22, 2016

Hi there

This month I’ve taught the Shaving Foam Technique at my card classes.  It’s a great technique and heaps of fun to do.  Just make sure you have paper towels handy as you do get it bit messy – part of the fun.

shaving-foam-technique-swirly-wreath shaving-foam-technique-swirly-wreath-side

This sample uses four ink colours – Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Pear Pizzazz and Crumb Cake.  If you’ve never done this technique before head to the supermarket and buy some shaving foam.  There’s heaps of video tutorials around to explain how to do it.  I used some brown paper instead of a plate – much easier to just fold the paper up and through it away 🙂

shaving-foam-technique-sunshine-congrats shaving-foam-technique-thanks

These samples all use the same colours – Tempting Turquoise, Marina Mist and Pool Party.

shaving-foam-technique-happy-birthday

You also need to have a toothpick or bamboo skewer so that you can create your pattern.  Each time you do this technique you will get a completely different look – your cards will be ‘one of a kind’.

In addition I used:   a number of thinlits – Swirly Scribbles, Wonderful Wreath, Layering Ovals, Sunshine Wishes and Hello You and a few stamp sets –  Wondrous Wreath, Merry Mice, Endless Birthday Wishes and Sunshine Sayings.

Christmas Note Cards – Merry Mice and Totally Trees

By | September 15, 2016

Hi there

Last weekend I held a workshop for 13 lovely ladies and showcased products from the new Holiday Catalogue.  As this was a big group and they were seated at two tables I decided is would be easier to teach two projects – one per table then swap.  I picked two stamps sets from the Holiday Catalogue – Merry Mice and Totally Trees – to create two Christmas cards.  I’ve used the Note Cards and Envelopes for these cards – Whisper White and Crumb Cake.  They come in a pack of 20 and are already cut and scored 🙂 Here is what they made:

The Merry Mice set has three line images so they could choose which image they wanted to colour in.

merry-mice-notecard-lantern-workshop

The backgrounds are created with the new Seasonal Masks – you get four designs for $12.  The colour is sponged over the mask creating the design.

merry-mice-notecard-singing-workshop

The images are stamped onto Shimmery White Card Stock which is great from watercolouring.  You could also use Watercolour Paper.

merry-mice-notecard-three-mice-workshop

In New Zealand we have a tree called the Pohutukawa Tree which flowers at Christmas – it is known as the New Zealand Christmas Tree and was my inspiration for this card.

totally-trees-notecards-workshop

I have fallen in love with this stamp set – it has 27 stamps and allows for heaps of creativity with different overlays for the branch images.  I used Soft Suede for the tree trunk/branches and then Mint Macaron, Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive for the ‘greenery’.

Day at the Beach

By | September 13, 2016

Hi there

Over the weekend I had some time to play with the new set ‘Day at the Beach’.  i used a mix of the stamps to create a background and then added my sentiments in copper.  This is a fun set to play with.

day-at-the-beach-happy-birthday

The images are stamped with Memento Black then I coloured them in using a blender pen.  The ‘happy’ is cut out of the new copper foil and the ‘birthday’ is heat embossed with copper embossing powder.  I’m loving the new Layering Ovals Framelits – here I’ve used the second to smallest oval and second to smallest scallop oval.  I adhered this with dimensionals for a bit of height.  The Fine Tip Glue Pen is a great accessory to have in your tool kit – makes adhering the cut out sentiments a breeze.

Supplies  Stamp Set – Day at the Beach, Endless Birthday Wishes.  Card Stock – Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White.  Ink – Memento Black, Emerald Envy, Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Melon Mambo, Pacific Point, Smoky Slate.  Other – Layering Ovals Framelits, Hello You Thinlits, Copper Foil, Copper Embossing Powder, Blender Pen

Day at the Beach – I wish

By | September 6, 2016

Hi there

Spring has now arrived which means Summer is the next season and with that a Day at the Beach – or two :).  As I can’t get to the beach at the moment I have created a card to help me remember what it’s like.

Day at the Beach - with Dolphin

This card uses two new sets from the Holiday Catalogue – Day at the Beach and Totally Trees – I’m loving both of these sets.  The outline stamps from Day at the Beach allow you to be creative with your colouring in.  When I was a kid our beach umbrella was multi-coloured and that inspired my colour combo – what colour was your beach umbrella?

My sentiment comes from a set I recently purchased – Sunshine Sayings – and is perfect for this card.

Supplies:Stamp Set – Day at the Beach Totally Trees, Sunshine Sayings.  Card Stock – Real Red, Whisper White.  Ink – Real Red, Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight, Emerald Envy, Basic Grey, Crumb Cake, Pool Party, Momento Black.  Other – Blender Pens
