Marquee Messages – You Are Awesome

By | August 31, 2016

Hi there

In my last post I mentioned that if you wanted to sign up to my monthly newsletter to send me an email and I would add you.  Well I have made it even easier – I’ve added a sign up box which automatically adds you to my mailing list 🙂  You can find the sign up box to the right of this post.

Last month some of my team reached some milestones so to congratulate them I made these cards with the Marquee Messages stamp set from page 111 of the annual catalogue.  I had fun creating these cards – I stamped the image on three different colours of card stock – Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry.  After cutting up the stamped image I did a bit of ‘mix and match’ until I has happy with combo.  For my ‘lights’ I used the Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details from page 181 of the annual catalogue.

Balloon Builder Macaroon Tower

By | August 27, 2016

Hi there

Welcome to my new look blog :). If you receive my monthly newsletter watch out for some changes there as well. If you haven’t signed up to my monthly newsletter then please email me on paula@yellowbearstamping.com and I’ll add you to the list. And yes that is a new email address – I’ve taken the big step and now have my own domain name. Thanks to my nephew who has helped me set this all up 🙂

Today’s card is one I created for a friend’s special birthday last month. I saw a card that Kate Morgan had created using the Balloon Builders set and I knew I had to CASE it.  My friend loves baking so this was perfect – a Macaroon tower cake.

Balloon Builders - Macaroon Card - Front

I forgot to write down all the colours I used but I think they were Perfect Plum, Peekaboo Peach, Pool Party, Basic Black, Sweet Sugarplum, Flirty Flamingo, Bermuda Bay and Soft Sky.  It took a bit of time (at patience) as I needed to clean my stamp before stamping the next one but it was worth it.  I used 1/8″ Gold Ribbon in-between the layers of macaroons – this helped me keep my macaroons straight (well almost).Balloon Builders - Macaroon Card - Inside

Check out my new signature as well 🙂

Swirly Bird – Slider Card

By | August 26, 2016

Hi there

One of the ladies from the Stampin’ Up! Home Office shared a post about a special boy who is having a birthday next month and asked if some of us could send him a birthday card.  This is one of the great things about card making and the Stampin’ Up! wider family.  We can brighten somebodies day by sending a card – it doesn’t matter whether you know them or not.  So that’s what I’ve done.  This card is currently winging it’s way to Utah to a 10 year old I’ve never met but I know that his day will be a good one when he receives his birthday cards from all around the world.

Swirly Bird - Happy Birthday - Spinner Card

I forgot to take a photo but I had stamped ‘Happy Birthday – have a great day’ on the inside.

This card is an interactive one – the front boat slides backwards and forwards across the page.

Have a great birthday Stephen.

August Card Class – Floral Phrases and Swirly Bird

By | August 25, 2016

Hi there

It’s not long till the Holiday Catalogue will be with us.  If you haven’t received a copy yet please let me know and I’ll send one out.

I was inspired by a card Tina Rappe shared on one of the groups I belong to that I had to have a go and recreate myself.  It looks like there is a scalloped mat around the image but it’s actually a ‘window’.  The hole is cut out of the card base and the card front allowing you to see the stamped image on the inside – how cool is that.  My card ladies enjoyed making this and they had two options of sentiments.

Floral Phrases - Wedding Wishes - Alexandra

The stamp set we used is Floral Phrases and comes as a bundle with the coordinating Detailed Floral Thinlits which we also used to create the intricate pattern on the left of the image.

Floral Phrases - Happy Birthday - Allison

This also works well for a birthday card – this one was for my sister-in-law who celebrated her birthday last week.

The second card we made was for Father’s Day which is only a couple of weeks away for those of us in the South Pacific.

Swirly Bird - Happy Fathers Day

I CASED this card from Sara Sayers – I love the bold colours of Real Red, Daffodil Delight and Dapper Denim.  This design could also be used for a birthday card.

Check back tomorrow for another version of the Swirly Bird card I made for a 10 year boy.

Thoughtful Branches

By | August 17, 2016

Hi there

We have a special promotion happening this month – it’s the Thoughtful Branches bundle which includes an amazing stamp set and coordinating dies.  Here are three cards I made over the weekend using this bundle:

Thoughtful Branches - Emma

I’ve used my new found technique – Baby Wipe Technique – to create the variegated colour of my tree.  I used Garden Green, Always Artichoke, Pear Pizzazz and Wild Wasabi reinkers.

Thoughtful Branches - Lesley

The ‘cloud’ image from Sprinkles of Life came in handy for this card.  I love it when there is a coordinating punch or die – so much quicker than having to manually cut the image out!

Thoughtful Branches - Sullivan

There are a good number of images and dies with this bundle to help create a wide range of projects.  I still have a few ideas to create so keep an eye out.

If you’d like to purchase this bundle please let me know by Tuesday 30th as this promotion finishes on 31st August.

Baby Wipe Technique – Part Two – Christmas Theme

By | August 10, 2016

Hi there

I had already decided to use the baby wipe technique when my second card class emailed and asked if they could have Christmas themed cards.  Not a problem – this technique works well for any theme. I decided to go with the Embellished Ornaments stamp set and use the baubles images.  The colours are not your traditional Christmas colours but I think they turned out rather well.

Baby Wipe Technique - Embellished Ornaments - 1 - July Card Class

The colours I chose were Calypso Coral, Island Indigo, Pool Party and Soft Sky.  The two outer ornaments are stamped directly onto the card front while the middle ornament is adhered with dimensionals.

Baby Wipe Technique - Embellished Ornaments - 2 - July Card Class

A bit of silver foil or some ‘bling’ just finishes them off

Baby Wipe Technique - Embellished Ornaments - 3 - July Card Class

The silver metallic thread doubled over creates the hanger as the die cut just didn’t look right.

I then had a thought – what about the single image from Lovely as a Tree.  This time I’ve just gone with four shades of green.

Baby Wipe Technique - Lovely as a Tree - Joy WW - July Card Class

The four greens are – Wild Wasabi, Garden Green, Always Artichoke and Pear Pizzazz

Baby Wipe Technique - Lovely as a Tree - Merry CC - July Card Class

The card bases are (from top) Watermelon Wonder, Cherry Cobbler, Cucmber Crush and Real Red

Baby Wipe Technique - Lovely as a Tree - Merry CCrush - July Card Class

I had some sentiments left over from last Christmas so added those – I think I may add some Wink of Stella to the trees for a bit of a sparkle.

Baby Wipe Technique - Lovely as a Tree - Merry Christmas RR - July Card ClassThis one is my favourite.

I have really loved playing with this technique – it’s so easy and is heaps of fun.  I hope you give it a go.

Baby Wipe Technique – Part One

By | August 9, 2016

Hi there

At last months card classes I taught the Baby Wipe Technique.  This technique has been around for some time but I’d never tried it prior to last month!  Thanks to Delys Cram for sharing her creation – you inspired me to give it a go and I LOVE this technique.  All you need is baby wipes, re-inkers and your chosen stamp set.

For my first class I used Rich Razzleberry, Blushing Bride, Bermuda Bay and Pool Party and this is what we created:

Baby Wipe Technique - Floral Phrases - July Card Class

This card uses the new Floral Phrases stamp set and the new Petal Burst Embossing Folder

Baby Wipe Technique - Watercolour Wings - Bermuda Bay - July Card Class

The ladies were able to choose what colour base and sentiment they wanted.  The base butterfly was stamped directly to the card front then we cut out the butterfly overlay and adhered it by placing adhesive just on the ‘body’ of the butterfly.

Baby Wipe Technique - Watercolour Wings - Rich Razzleberry - July Card Class
Baby Wipe Technique - Flower Shop - Bermuda Bay - July Card Class

I love the simplicity of the Flower Shop images.  I chose four of the six designs and went with a landscape and portrait option.

Baby Wipe Technique - Flower Shop - Rich Razzleberry - July Card Class
Love that we now have vertical greetings 🙂
Check back tomorrow for the cards created at my second card class.

Sitting Here – with sleeping dog

By | July 27, 2016

Hi there

Here’s another version of Sitting Here (and Cottage Greetings) using the 2016-2018 In Colors – I still haven’t worked our which is my favourite colour – they’re all really nice.

I’ve arranged my cushions more than yesterday’s card – overlapping them gives a real 3D look.

Here’s a close up of ‘my’ dog in his basket.  I was using the masking technique to stamp the dog and basket but wasn’t 100% happy with how it turned out.  After talking with another demo friend I’ve started stamping the basket and dog separately then cutting a slit in the top of the basket and sliding the dog into the gap so he’s actually ‘in’ the basket.  I’ve also cut around his head more so that I can have his head hanging over the side of the basket.  I’m really pleased with how this now looks.

Supplies:
Stamp Set – Sitting Here, Cottage Greetings
Card Stock – Peekaboo Peach, Shimmery White
Ink – Memento Black, Emerald Envy, Dapper Denim, Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake Sahara Sand, Old Olive,, Pumpkin Pie
Other – Pearls, Aqua Painter

Sitting here – with my cat

By | July 26, 2016

Hi there

There’s something very relaxing about colouring in – and the new set Sitting Here is a great set for that.  This time I’ve used the cat – I’m sure he’s enjoying basking in the sun :).

Sitting Here - Cat on Swing

I tend to stamp the cushions (and cat) on a scrap piece of paper then colour in and adhere on top of my swing.  It adds a bit of dimension and I can also angle the cushions although for this card I’ve just got them sitting along the back.  The new In Colors blend beautifully for the flower pot and a little bit of grass sets them off.

I’m not sure why I left it so long to buy Cottage Greetings – I love the font and sentiments in this set.

Supplies:
Stamp – Sitting Here, Cottage Greetings
Card Stock – Flirty Flamingo, Shimmery White
Ink – Memento Black, Dapper Denim, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Smoky Slate, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede

Check back tomorrow for my next ‘dog’ version.

CASEing the Catalogue

By | July 21, 2016

Hi there

What is CASEing?  In paper crafting terms it stands for Copy And Share Everything.  So that’s what I’ve done with these two cards.  If you check out page 122 and page 200 of the new Annual Catalogue you’ll see what I mean.
Mixed Borders - Blushing Bride

I did make some changes to this card – I added a mat to the embossed front and stamped image then adhered it to a card base as I wanted some added colour.  I’ve used Blushing Bride for the flowers, Pear Pizzazz for the leaves and Early Espresso for the sentiment.
Pun Intended - You light up my life

This card is pretty much the same as the one in the catalogue although I have again matted the stamped image.  My Stamp-A-Ma-Jig has never had such a workout with stamping the background of this card!
My card base is Calypso Coral with Calypso Coral ink for the background and Smoky Slate for the light bulb.

Often when I CASE something I’ll use the original card as my base and then make a few changes to suit the products I have and my tastes.  Give it a try – it’s fun.

Playful Palette and In Color Samples

By | July 18, 2016

Hi there

As promised here are the last of the samples I shared at OnStage back in April.

The color combo for this card was inspired by one of my summer skirts – Emerald Envy, Pool Party, Elegant Eggplant and Basic Black.  I stamped a piece of Whisper White then cut it into eight 1 1/4″ squares.  They were then matted to a 1 3/8″ Basic Black square.  I cut two 3″ squares from Emerald Envy and placed them off centre on top of each other to create the base then adhered the small squares.  I’ll try and do up a photo tutorial to show the step by step construction.

I love Spinner Cards and you will see a few I’ve already shared here and here

This color combo for this card was inspired by a scarf I have which features, Daffodil Delight, Tempting Turquoise and Sweet Sugarplum.  The technique for this card is called the Triple Time Card.

A great way to show the five rolls of washi tape you get as part of the Playful Palette Suite.  A quick and simple card to create.

Now that I’ve shared all my Playful Palette samples I can show you some other creations using new products (and old).  Keep an eye on this space.

More Playful Palette samples

By | July 17, 2016

Hi there

Sorry for the lack of posts this last week – I was busy preparing for our team Extravaganza event which we held yesterday.  I’ll share with you later in the week the five projects that were taught.

I thought I’d better finish sharing the rest of my samples from OnStage featuring the Playful Palette Suit and new In Colors.

OnStage - Balloons - front
Rather than stamp the balloon images from Balloon Celebration set I used the Balloon Bouquet punch and some of the papers from the Playful Palette paper stack.
OnStage - Balloons - inside
OnStage - Collar Card - front

I think this card is called a Collar Card and uses a piece of DSP 10cm x 14.3cm.   I cut in about 3cm then scored from the top and bottom corners into the cut point – this made it easier to fold the DSP back.  I added the sentiment to cover where the cut ended.

OnStage - Collar Card - inside
OnStage - Keyboard - front

Who remembers the xylophone from their childhood?  I’m sure these instruments must have driven our mothers up the wall!  This card is a great way to showcase the new In Colors in one hit 🙂  To create the ‘mallet’ I punched a 3/4″ circle from Basic Black and adhered a length of Crumb Cake which was 1/4″ wide and 4 1/4″ long.  The strips of card stock are 1″ wide and adhered with dimensionals.  The lengths are (from L to R) 4″, 3 5/8″, 3 1/4″, 2 7/8″, 2 1/2″.
I have four more cards to share so check back tomorrow to see them.

This particular OSW template also makes a cute box for the cards to be stored in.  This is a great gift to give away.

Stamp Set – Flower Shop, Crazy About You
Card Stock – Whisper White, Basic Black, Sweet Sugarplum, Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach, Emerald Envy
Ink – Sweet Sugarplum, Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach, Emerald Envy
