Today’s cards is the fourth in my CASE (Copy And Share Everything) series and is from page 68 of the May–August Catalogue. I love the clean, simple layouts in the catalogue, so I’ve kept the same design elements but have added my own twist by changing the background papers.
Notecards & Envelopes are a fantastic option when you want to make a quick card, and because they’re already cut and scored, you can have a finished card in no time. For the background layers, I swapped the original papers for designs from the Paper Medley Pack. I love how just changing the Designer Series Paper gives the cards a completely different look while still staying true to the original design.
Both cards feature pieces from the Mix & Match Ephemera Packs. If you haven’t tried these yet, they’re such a fun way to create cards quickly. The die-cut images are printed on a slightly heavier cardstock and have adhesive on the back. Simply choose your pieces, peel off the backing, and stick them straight onto your project—no liquid glue required.
The watering can and floral wreath make a lovely everyday “Just a Note” card, while the colourful balloons create a cheerful birthday card that’s ready in minutes.
A Little Tip for Tiny Die Cuts
The only change I made to the balloon card was the stars. The catalogue sample used two white stars, but against my black and white striped paper they just disappeared. Instead, I coloured the stars using ink and a blending brush so they stood out beautifully.
Because the stars are so small, I used one of my favourite little tricks. Rather than removing them from the sheet first, I left them in the surrounding cardstock while I blended the ink over the top. It makes them much easier to hold and gives you even coverage. Once coloured, simply pop them out and adhere them to your card. Sometimes it’s the smallest tips that make crafting so much easier.
I had fun CASEing these samples and went on to create another three.
These cards are a great reminder that you don’t always need to reinvent a design. Changing the paper, colours or embellishments is often all it takes to make a project your own.
